Important Notice Regarding COVID-19 Diagnostic Testing Benefit Update Clarification

This important notice is a follow-up to the important notice posted on February 10, 2023 to clarify the benefit update for over-the-counter (OTC) COVID-19 at-home tests no longer being covered effective May 11, 2023. The information contained in this important notice replaces the February 10, 2023 notice entirely.


The federal administration recently announced that the COVID-19 national emergency and public health emergency will end on Thursday, May 11, 2023. These emergencies affected your UHA benefits coverage and plan administration. UHA Health Insurance is writing to inform you of the impact of this recent announcement.

Through May 10, 2023 UHA is covering 100% of the UHA eligible charges for COVID-19 diagnostic testing and over-the-counter (OTC) at-home tests. As of May 11, 2023, over-the-counter (OTC) COVID-19 at-home tests will no longer be covered and your UHA plan benefits will revert back to regular deductibles, co-pays, and coinsurance for all other COVID-19 diagnostic testing.

Overview of plan administration deadlines for COBRA, claims and appeals, external review, and special enrollments:

Through May 10, 2023, the plan administrative deadlines related to COBRA, claims and appeals, external review, and special enrollments are tolled or “paused” for one year or until 60 days after May 11, 2023 (i.e., July 10, 2023), whichever is earlier. As of May 11, 2023, these plan administrative deadlines will revert back to standard election periods.
