UHA Associates Make the Community a Better Place

UHA is incredibly fortunate to have an ‘ohana of such accomplished, giving individuals who want to make Hawai‘i a better place. Our associates’ recent honors include:

Doreen Nakamura, Director of Clinical Care, was appointed by the governor to the Hawai‘i State Center for Nursing Advisory Board in June. The Center for Nursing believes that by ensuring excellence in nursing practice, the people of Hawai‘i will receive quality care. Doreen, who joined UHA as our very first care management nurse, will serve in that volunteer capacity until June 2022.

Howard Lee, President and CEO, was selected for the Board of Trustees at Mid-Pac Institute, the independent, college-preparatory school for preschool through grade 12. The trustees provide critical practical, philosophical and philanthropic leadership in collaboration with the school’s president and senior executive team.

Del Mochizuki, Controller, was named to the Board of Trustees at Island Pacific Academy, the independent, college-preparatory school for children in kindergarten through grade 12. She currently serves as treasurer and chair of the Finance Committee.

She is also a member of the 17^th class of Pacific Century Fellows. The exclusive leadership training program seeks to enhance civic participation by honing the skills of mid-career individuals like Del who will make significant contributions to Hawai‘i in the future.

Lauren Esposo, Client Services Manager, has graduated from the Patsy T. Mink Leadership Alliance as part of its fourth annual cohort. The 10-month program helps advance the expertise of emerging female leaders like Lauren who show great potential for management and leadership. The organization’s ultimate goal is to increase the representation of women in Hawai‘i across a diverse cross-section of industries.

Suzanne Eugenio, Marketing Services Manager, has joined the Board of Directors for Navian Hawai‘i. Formerly known as Hospice Hawai‘i, the organization provides specialized care to those with serious illnesses, as well as guidance and compassion as people take the many journeys through life.

Brandon Hinaga, Marketing Services Supervisor, was selected as part of the fifth cohort of the Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals Mentor Hawai‘i. The program pairs promising young managers and other professionals with an experienced Hawai‘i executive over a six-month period. Brandon is fortunate to be mentored by Marie Kumabe, principal of Kumabe HR, who is providing invaluable insights into business and career.

Kelii Bandmann, Workplace Wellness Administrator, earned a Faculty designation from the Wellness Coalition of America (WELCOA). WELCOA Faculty members like Kelii are trained to address higher levels of organizational challenges, including reducing injury in the workplace, engaging employees in long-term well-being, containing health care costs and improving productivity with healthy employees.
