UHA Partners With ActiveHealth To Offer Pioneering Comprehensive Health Management Services

(HONOLULU: JANUARY 18, 2007) — UHA, Hawaii's leading innovator in health care coverage, today announced the launch of a comprehensive clinically based and technology driven health management service to improve health care quality and lower costs.

In partnership with ActiveHealth Management of New York, UHA will offer ActiveHealth's CareEngine® Clinical Decision Support and Informed Care Management programs to its 40,000 members starting in February.

"UHA selected ActiveHealth® because it shares our goal of continuous improvement in the quality of health care for our members," said UHA Chief Executive Officer Dr. Max Botticelli. "Like UHA, ActiveHealth was founded by physicians, and it brings cutting-edge technology to manage new knowledge and clinical data to support doctors and better the care they provide to our members."

"We are particularly impressed with the collegiality, respect, and professional competency displayed by ActiveHealth's medical professionals, and the innovation and commitment to individual and personalized care the company will bring to our members and their physicians," Dr. Botticelli said.

ActiveHealth's CareEngine® System is a patented clinical decision support technology that supports physicians in treatment decisions and helps members to become better informed about their health care. The CareEngine® System continuously scans medical, pharmacy and lab claims and compares that information against the latest findings in evidence-based literature to identify individualized, actionable opportunities to improve care.

When issues are identified, clinical alerts, called Care Considerations are sent to members and their doctors. By providing timely information that enhances communication between members and their doctors, CareEngine enables the best, most informed medical decisions, reduces the chances of medical errors and helps prevent avoidable and expensive hospitalizations.

Informed Care Management (ICM) is ActiveHealth's holistic approach to disease management. The program provides members and their doctors with highly-specific, targeted information that enables more informed treatment decisions. ICM, which is powered by CareEngine, identifies members who can benefit the most from disease management and helps them manage non-acute chronic conditions, such as coronary artery disease, diabetes and asthma. ICM Nurse Care Managers use information from CareEngine and a workflow tool called ActiveAdvice® to perform health assessments and develop personalized care plans. The nurses also provide health coaching and education to help members better manage their conditions and communicate with their doctors.

"UHA is pleased to be the first in Hawaii to offer the ICM program to its members, and we believe they'll receive better quality health care at a reduced cost as a result," Dr. Botticelli said.

"UHA's selection of ActiveHealth validates our dedication to clinical excellence and technological innovation," said Lonny Reisman, MD, CEO of ActiveHealth. "We are honored to have been selected and are confident our services will improve the quality of care for UHA members and lead to significant reductions in medical costs."
