UHA Unveils Hawaii's First Health Plan Promoting Wellness and Prevention —
UHA 3000 Offers 100% Wellness Coverage While Reducing Cost of Premiums

(HONOLULU: JANUARY 10, 2006) — UHA announced today that it is offering Hawaii's first health insurance plan with full, 100-percent coverage for important wellness and prevention benefits.

"The plan, named UHA 3000, fully covers preventive physical examinations, screening blood tests, cancer screenings, and other preventive and wellness measures," said Max Botticelli, M.D., UHA's CEO. "What's more, the premiums for UHA 3000 will be priced below the company's other plans."

"UHA is especially pleased to offer UHA 3000 because it fits with our goal to continuously improve the quality of our members' health care and lives and at the same time to lower employer health insurance costs. Lower premiums will lower costs directly but prevention and early detection will have an even greater effect over time," Dr. Botticelli said.

Among the wellness and prevention benefits offered at no cost to members are:

  • Well Child Care Physician Office Visits
  • Maternity Care, Delivery, Birthing Room and Newborn Nursery
  • Child and Adult Immunizations
  • Adult Preventive Medicine Examinations by members' primary care physicians
  • Screening Laboratory Services
  • Chlamydia Screening
  • Breast, Cervical, Colorectal and Prostate Cancer Screening
  • Osteoporosis Screening
  • Tuberculin Skin Test

"Also, we will educate our members about these wellness benefits and urge them to make
healthy choices."

UHA 3000 also offers a comprehensive package of hospital, surgical, and other medical benefits aligned with industry standards.

Founded by a group of physicians in 1996, UHA is Hawaii's third largest commercial health insurer. UHA is a mutual benefit society providing medical, drug, and vision plans to more than 35,500 members. With revenues in excess of $80 million, it is ranked among the state's Top 250 companies by Hawaii Business magazine. For more information, visit our website at www.uhahealth.com.
